Being a single person is a frustrating experience when it comes to the kitchen. Cooking for one can be a pain in the ass and many of my single friends have simply not taken the time to even learn because they don’t understand the sense of satisfaction that comes with making a meal, even if it’s just for one.
A girlfriend of mine had a real passion for the kitchen and looked at it as more than as something utilitarian – I would say she saw it as an art. Her infectious passion for food caught me and I learned as much as I can from her. Even though we broke up, I decided to set out and try to learn how to be a better cook instead of spending my life eating take-out (expensive), frozen dinners (not healthy), and sandwiches (not very appetizing unless done right).
After watching the Food Network and trying a few things on my own, I think I’ve learned a thing or two about what it takes to make a great healthy meal for myself as well as eating saving money because it’s not going to take out food (or a cardiologist).
I still have no idea what I’m doing in the kitchen, but at least I know how to get by. I want to learn more, and that’s what I’ll be posting here. Anyone who’s trying to learn something about cooking, especially those who are young and single like myself, should get a lot out of my journey.
I welcome comments or direct communications (email, twitter) and I would love to have anyone guest post or become a contributor to the blog.
Thanks for reading and enjoy.
Jeff
